I'm using Dexpot 1.5.13 build 1721 with Windows XP.

I use 2 virtual desks.

In the desk 1, my application are ordered in my taskbar like this :
- Application A
- Application B
- Application C

I switch to the second desk.

In the desk 2, my application are ordered in my taskbar like this :
- Application A (common with desk 1)
- Application D
- Application E

I switch back to desk 1 and my application are ordered like this :
- Application C
- Application A
- Application B

Even if I manually change the position (taskbar shuffle), any switch between my desks can reorder randomly my applications order.

I only use TaskBar Shuffle to reorder my applications in the taks bar.

I tried Dexpot on another computer (a fresh install of WinXP SP3 + Office 2007 + Avast + Firefox + Taskbar shuffle), I have the same behavior...

The same thing happens to me, even with the latest 1.6 beta. As a private user I suppose I can't really complain since I'm not paying anything. However, this problem is preventing me from purchasing Dexpot at my day job.

This problem has been present ever since I started using Dexpot years ago.
Now I'm running Win7 SP1 64-bit, fully patched with 2 monitors without Aero. I'm not running TaskBar Shuffle. Since I have 12GB I typically have lots of programs running. But, due to this bug, their order is always shuffled when I switch windows.

Cordially,
Jon Forrest

What FunkyBob describes is exactly what I see. I typically have >= 15 items in my taskbar and I've seen no pattern to how things get reordered.

I've been experiencing this problem ever since I started using Dexpot years ago. It's nothing
new. Neither is it solved by the new release, currently in Beta.

Can you Dexpot developers say anything about what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Jon Forrest

you seem to have "Don't keep taskbar button order" in 'Settings > Plugins and Extras' enabled?

No, it's not checked.

I've tried with and without this option, the problem is the same.

I just downloaded the official 1.6 release (1.6.0.2116) and I'm sorry to say this bug is still there, and it's 100% reproducible. For example, in Window 1 I have, in the follow order, icons for Firefox, Thunderbird, Evernote, and Lync I switch to Windows 2 where I have, in the following order, Firefox, Evernote, and several Putty icons. When I switch back to Window 1 the order is now Firefox, Evernote, Thunderbird, and Lync,

I had sent in a log before but never got any reply. I'm hoping this bug can be fixed. Other than this, Dexpot is fantastic.

Cordially,
Jon Forrest

Dear Mr. Dexpot,

Again, since I'm not a paying customer I have no right to expect anything from you. But, could you say something about the status of this bug?

Cordially,
Jon Forrest

the *.log interestingly shows that your taskbar buttons are restored in the correct order. We have a theoretical explanation in mind, but that won't help you either.

I was having the exact same problem. I am running 7+ Taskbar Tweaker 4.0.2 and Dexpot 1.6.1 build 2121 on Windows 7 64-bit. I restarted Dexpot with Settings|Plugins and Extras|Disable Full-screen and Disable window recovery checked and Settings|General|Run As administrator checked. Then everything worked fine. I can reorder taskbar icons and they maintain order when switching between virtual desktops. The interesting thing is that now I can uncheck all those options mentioned and it continues to work. I suspect that running as administrator at least once allows Dexpot to alter some file somewhere it otherwise can't that allows the order to be preserved from then on.

Note, however, even after the fix above, that taskbar icons for windows you have broadcast to multiple desktops (I have my Pidgin window set up this way) do *not* preserve their order. My Pidgin window always becomes the first taskbar icon when I switch desktops. I don't care much about that since that is the only window I currently share across desktops. I do still consider it a bug though.

Hi Mr. Dexpot!. It's your old pal Jon here. I just downloaded the latest version of dexpot (1.6.7_r2249)
and the same problem that I and FunkyBob have been having is still there. Again, since I'm not a paying
customer I can't expect much, but I'm wondering whether there's any hope that this bug will ever be fixed.

Thanks,
Jon Forrest

Hello,

I also have this problem of the icons in the taskbar being reordered after switching between desktops with Dexpot v1.6.14 build 2439. I am not using other software to hack the taskbar (as far as I can tell). What could I do to help solve this issue?

Best,
Yann

Having the same issue here on Windows 10. I don't remember it happening on Windows 7 (but maybe it did, I can't remember).

It looks like someone else also posted this issue a few years ago but received no solution: viewtopic.php?t=4763
